ConsentTrack – Campaign Metrics Without the Compliance Risk

European regulators now treat email tracking pixels like cookies, so identifying who opened or clicked generally needs prior consent. Anonymous Tracking keeps your campaign metrics intact while tracking individuals only where they've said yes. One send, every recipient handled to their jurisdiction's standard.

Ahead of the Regulators, Not Chasing Them

When GDPR arrived, our financial services clients asked a hard question: how do we keep measuring campaigns when some recipients can't be individually tracked? Most platforms had no answer. We built one. Anonymous Tracking has been in production since 2018.

In July 2026, France's CNIL and Italy's Garante ruled that tracking pixels need the same prior consent as cookies, with hard deadlines attached. Platforms that track every recipient identically now have a problem. Our clients don't.

Four Levels

Tracking Dialed to Your Obligations

Choose the level that matches your legal position, per instance and per contact:

Level 0: No tracking. No pixel, no link redirection. Every link goes straight to its destination.

Level 1 : Anonymous totals. Identical links and a non-unique pixel for every recipient. You see total opens and clicks — how the campaign landed — with no way to identify any individual.

Level 2: Unique but unidentified. A one-way algorithm transforms recipient tokens before activity is recorded, so you see unique opens and clicks without engagement being tied to a named contact in reporting.

Level 3: Full tracking. Standard individual-level tracking, applied where consent exists.

One Send, Every Consent Respected

Consent-Aware Sends

One Send. Every Consent Respected.

This is where most platforms fall down: one pixel, one analytics pipeline, no dial. StoneShot mixes tracking levels within a single send — consented contacts get full tracking, everyone else is measured anonymously. No split sends, no separate lists, no workflow change for your marketing team.

The opt-in machinery is built in, too. StoneShot preference forms, and automated new-contact workflows capture tracking consent — timestamped, applied to the very next send, and synced to custom fields in your CRM.

Reporting Intact

Your Metrics Survive the Rules

Campaign-level performance stays whole across your entire audience. Delivery, opens, clicks, trends, benchmarking. Individual-level insight — engagement scoring, sales alerts, journey triggers — applies to consented contacts. Anonymous recipients still count in your totals, so your numbers stay meaningful instead of collapsing to a consented-only sliver.

And because BotShield filters fake engagement before it reaches your reporting, what's left is real humans, honestly measured.

Where Does Your Current Platform Leave You?

If your email platform can't separate consent to receive an email from consent to be tracked, every send to France is now a judgement call... and Italy's deadline is October 28, 2026. We'll walk your team through how Anonymous Tracking maps to the CNIL and Garante guidance, and what a migration would look like.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Anonymous Tracking?
StoneShot's solution for measuring email campaign performance without identifying individual recipients. Four tracking levels let you match measurement to consent, from no tracking at all to full individual tracking — including mixed levels within a single send.
Why does this matter now?
In spring 2026, France's CNIL and Italy's Garante both ruled that email tracking pixels require prior consent when they identify individuals, with compliance deadlines of 14 July 2026 (France) and 28 October 2026 (Italy). The same ePrivacy and GDPR principles apply across the EU.
Does anonymous tracking satisfy the CNIL and Garante guidance?
Both regulators distinguish between tracking that identifies individuals and measurement that doesn't. Level 1 provides campaign totals with no per-recipient identification. Your legal team determines the right configuration per jurisdiction — we're happy to join that conversation.
How do contacts get elevated to full tracking?
Three routes: a consent flag synced from your CRM, an opt-in through a StoneShot form or preference center, or a list import marked as consented. The default for everyone else is set at instance level.
Can we run different rules for different regions?
Yes. That's the point. A global list can be handled with per-jurisdiction precision in a single send — anonymous for French contacts, full tracking for consented US contacts, all in one campaign.
Does it cover clicks as well as opens?
Yes. The 2026 guidance focused on pixels, but per-recipient link tracking raises the same principles — so tracking levels govern opens and clicks together.
Does it change what recipients see?
No. Emails render identically. At Level 1, recipients receive identical links; at Levels 2–3, links differ per recipient as with standard tracking.
Is there an extra cost?
No. Anonymous Tracking is part of the StoneShot platform. It's configuration, not a module.
