Back in 2019, we promoted over 1,700 events via the StoneShot Marketing Platform. However, the onset of COVID-19 back in March 2020 changed the trajectory for physical events. There was a mass transition to webinars, video on demand, and virtual meetings. With a 14,900% increase in video on demand and 1,700% increase in virtual meetings for 2020 vs 2019 as well as a 360% increase in live webinars, online events were set to be the norm.
As social and travel restrictions lift around the world in 2021, we suspected a strong desire to resume physical events. However, a year of social distancing has changed people’s behaviour and expectations.
To understand the shift in event preferences for professional investors, we surveyed our global professional investor audience to learn about their expectations.
A key finding was that 80% of professional investors want to attend events within a month of restrictions lifting. However, 35% of professional investors will divide their time equally between virtual and physical events with 63% saying they will resume physical events as soon as they are allowed. This means that hybrid events are here to stay.

Don’t skimp on the basics though as people care about the food, coffee and temperature so make sure to consider these factors when deciding your venue. For virtual events, ease of logging in, acoustics and lack of background noise are important.
We have compiled more insights from our event research into a report called “The New Event Variant”. This report tackles professional investor opinion regarding physical events, online events and what they expect going forward.
We can also share case studies from your peers over a meeting.
